Starting a new day is not always easy, right? I mean, most people wake up feeling grumpy in the morning; I know I did before I started my healing journey. Even now, I have days now where I feel this way before my daily meditations and self-healings.
Unless you’re part of that elite “morning persons” crew who bounce out of bed like they’ve already downed three cups of coffee…you know the feeling, right?
So, you’re dealing with the usual grumpiness because of work, school, kids or just the daily grind. But hey, everything changes when you’re begin to heal your relationship with yourself. Suddenly, your well-being is the first thing on your mind when you open your eyes.
And with technology, it’s so easy to find a good morning love message to yourself, so you can extend this same love out to others. The biggest misconception about self-love is that it selfish. After helping numerous clients, I know from experience, you will always love other conditionally before you learn how to love yourself unconditionally.
I’ve got a bunch of those messages—inspirational ones, funny ones, and some you can send your boyfriend, girlfriend, partner or child. Personally, I like to keep a picture of my child self near my bed, so I can greet her with one of these messages each morning. This technique opens me up to holding more compassion for my own self. Let’s keep that love alive.

Everyone wanted me to get help and rejoin life, pick up the pieces and move on, and I tried to, I wanted to, but I just had to lie in the mud with my arms wrapped around myself, eyes closed, grieving, until I didn’t have to anymore.” – Anne Lamott. You will have to create the path by walking yourself; the path is not ready-made, lying there and waiting for you. It is just like the sky: the birds fly, but they don’t leave any footprints. She can’t afford to feel the full range of feelings in her body while she’s being abused—pain, outrage, hate, vengeance, confusion, arousal. So she short-circuits them and goes numb. For many children, any expression of feelings, even a single tear, is cause for more severe abuse. Again, the only recourse is to shut down. Feelings go underground.” – Laura Davis. Lived through the grace of stumbling. Demonstrated through the beauty of messing up. Often. Love in truth doesn’t need any adjectives. It only asks you to show up. And do your best.
